Why biodiversity loss is dangerously affecting us and our planet

Biodiversity is the variety of life in the world, which includes animals, plants, and ecosystems, but honestly, we probably won’t see biodiversity thriving for another century or so. Species are going extinct, trees are being cut down, habitats are being destroyed, and tropical rainforests and coral reefs are facing collapse. As you can probably imagine, it’s an issue. Biodiversity loss will only get worse and worse if we as humans continue to harm ecosystems and our planet in general. Soon we’ll lose nature, and that’ll be a fairly big issue for us.

Humans use lots of land, which pushes animals out of their habitats and is a main factor of biodiversity loss. Industries destroy habitats, cut down trees, pollute, and so on. The massive conversion of forests, wetlands, plains, and other ecosystems has produced an intense decline in biodiversity. Habitat loss intensely reduces the food resources and space for most species, however, there is more.

Pollution is also extremely harmful to Earth’s biodiversity, as fossil fuel burning can trap heat, influencing precipitation and temperature patterns, and fossil fuel emissions also pollute soil, water, and the air. It also creates intense health problems in organisms. In some cases, pollution may even occur in high enough doses to outright kill or create reproduction problems that threaten a species’ survival. This is a main factor in biodiversity loss, and also leads to climate change.

The future for biodiversity is not looking too bright. Industries and companies overexploit and destroy land; I could go on. The problems listed earlier were just the main factors in biodiversity loss, and those alone were problematic, but there are many other reasons too, such as overfishing. The problems listed earlier also may seem beneficial to some, however, they’ll further lead to more biodiversity loss, and the more biodiversity declines, the more harm that’ll be caused to our planet and humanity included. Biodiversity helps us thrive on this planet, and if we lose it, it’ll be devastating for everyone and everything.
