Photography tells a story. Through meticulous attention to detail and editing, photos can enforce emotions upon the observer. Photos of catastrophic events such as 9/11 captured the shock and terror of observers.

America’s experience with cherished landscapes and wildlife has helped define and shape our national character and identity for generations. Protecting these natural resources is a cause that has long united Americans from all walks of life and political stripes.

Photography also captures history in the making. Pictures of President Lyndon B. Johnson signing the Civil Rights Act with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. still remains a momentous tribute to the efforts of the mid-20th century Civil Rights movement. Pictures of the Berlin Wall falling represent the collapse of the despicable ideology known as communism and the failed economy it creates. When America touched down on the moon, photos of the world displayed the wild exuberance and joy for humanity's great accomplishment.

In the modern era, we are able to study the pictures of the past and apply it to the current society. Some are analyzed in the hopes that we do not recreate history. However, regardless of the reason, humanity has and will continue to utilize photography to display the world's marvels and atrocities. In doing so, humankind has shot tremendous pictures of nature, animals, humans, innovation, and creation.

The pictures within this gallery represent the culmination of digital editing, journalism, and long sleepless nights. Through the direction of Maddy Tea, the Director of Photography, this section is able to come to life, showcasing the website's greatest achievements and current events that shook the world.

On January 6th 2020, the world stood still as Trump supporters stormed, looted, and vandalized the capitol. After the capitol was secured, many politicians, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, urged Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th amendment.

Given the timing, it would be impossible to do so, but 158 La Canada students still weighed in.

LA CAÑADA PREPARES FOR A LCUSD GOVERNING BOARD ELECTION

In October, the members of the Outspoken Oppa Editorial Board published their first endorsement of a political candidate. In an unanimous 5/5 vote, they endorsed Caroline Anderson for the LCUSD Governing Board.

"It is the firm belief of this board that Ms. Anderson will meet the task of creating a welcoming school environment in these trying times and then some. She understands that in the midst of a pandemic, representation and swift action to address the concerns of all La Cañada Flintridge families is absolutely vital.

Her record is clear: she has the experience and the drive; she has constantly demonstrated her devotion to the success of this community. Now, it is up to the LCF community to take it upon themselves to support Caroline Anderson for School Board."
