How corruption could be the downfall of human civilization

Corruption is the act of being dishonest and unlawful while in authority. This includes leaders, police, judges, and other people in positions of power. Since 2000, efforts to stop corruption have decreased, and the recorded number of bribes has increased. This can impact our world to the point of collapse if we are not careful. How, you may ask? To start, corruption can lead to more corruption in other countries. The act of receiving bribes unlawfully becomes normalized. If corruption is not stopped now, international affairs and the well-being of citizens will be in danger.

Corruption can cause instability in countries. For example, since 1950, Bolivia has had the most coups out of any country. Why? Bolivia is one of the most unstable countries due to the amount of corruption in the government. This is because the corruption created political instability, which made the people want a new government. When a new government finally came, it was also corrupt, and so the cycle continued. Another element of how corruption can cause political instability is the relations with other countries. If countries are corrupt or are constantly under new leadership, like Bolivia, it makes them less trustworthy at international events.

In many countries where corruption is common, judges and police officers can be bribed to let criminals go. According to a statistic by the Global Crime Index, corruption in Haiti and crime statistics have increased significantly. I believe this is because of judges being bribed to let criminals go. Prison guards can also be corrupt and let more criminals out. In addition to this, in many corrupt countries, taxes are used for the personal use of the leader rather than for important resources. This means that not only will people in the country not have access to good education and other important resources, but also that the country would have a poor police and law enforcement district. Another example of how corruption impacts our world is smuggling.

Smuggling causes numerous problems in countries. Smuggling can bring harmful things like drugs or weapons into a country. This is often allowed because officials can turn a blind eye to smugglers if they get money. When harmful things are introduced into the country, they can often lead to harmful consequences like violence and drug use. This promotes instability and gun violence and can contribute to drug use. In addition to this, it can put businesses out of business as they can get goods from other countries.

In conclusion, corruption is bad for governments and can have many harmful effects, including smuggling, instability, and a loss of general welfare for citizens. Corruption can have lasting impacts on the government, like coups and changes in governments. Criminals can be released, and the world is controlled by money. The only people corruption is good for are the people accepting the bribes. So, how can you help with this problem? By reading this article, you are becoming aware of various problems with corruption. Being informed is massively important. You can also reject bribes. Again, corruption is bad and is something that should not be done.
