For centuries, humans thought of a very peaceful future, a world of space exploration, scientific progress, infrastructure development, and technological breakthroughs. With more than eight billion people dreaming of life on Mars, we thought global peace was the norm. Yet the reality is different: people in the world are living under a war, a state of extreme instability, where disagreements are no longer solved through peaceful negotiations. The thing that’s currently happening is not a war against each other; it is a war against innocent people and citizens.
It’s common to see emerging instabilities worldwide. The cruel civil war in Sudan continues to take away thousands of lives. Pushing millions to starvation and displacement. The Ukraine-Russia war grinds on with no clear clue of when it’s going to end; it has reshaped global alliances, which can lead to more dangerous and intense battlefields. The conflict between Israel and Palestine is one of the most unforgettable conflicts that happened in 2025. The Democratic Republic of Congo-M23 conflict is once again destabilizing Central Africa, taking away millions of innocent lives, while Myanmar’s civil war has plunged an entire nation into darkness. India and Pakistan are in dangerous tensions, which can lead to a very dangerous war that could escalate with a single misjudgment.
These wars are violent, cruel, ruthless, and devastating, taking millions of civilians’ lives, yet the world is not considering this moment as “World War III.” Why???
Many debate that a world war must involve a proper alliance and planet-wide conflict. Others argue that the term cannot apply unless the major powers directly get into a war. But the truth is simple: we don’t call this a war because the world chooses silence instead of standing for the lives of innocents; the suffering in these regions doesn’t have equal attention and compassion. When things come to Africa, they get very little attention compared to other regions in the world. And when things come to the Middle East or other parts of the world, they get a little attention compared to Western countries. The value of human life appears to rely on geography, politics, and global media interest; that is the strict reality that should shock us all.
Today, while some people worry about family gatherings, party outfits, vacation plans, or dinner reservations, others fall asleep unsure whether they will wake up the next day. Children growing up recognizing the sounds of bombs rather than the sound of laughter. Millions of people are displaced without a single international statement, with no global cry. Silence has become our symbol of 2025; it has become a weapon that kills hope and justice.
Nowhere is this tranquility more numbing than in Africa. Time has passed by; Africa has been through so many things, from colonization to the most bloody genocides and wars in the world, but the world has chosen to be silent when it comes to Africa and its Black peoples; justice and visibility disappear. But African lives are not worth less. No human being’s life in this world is worth less.
The world should remember that peace is not a privilege; it’s a right. Not hearing a bomb outside your door shouldn’t be reserved as a luxury for specific people. Silence is never neutral. When the world remains silent under the blood of the innocent, it chooses a side, but not the side of justice.
Whether the world names this as World War III or not, humanity is living under a serious global crisis. Every nation should cooperate to bring peace across the globe.
