Internships, summer programs, college applications; Harvard, Yale, Princeton. For those residing within more academically strident communities, such margins serve the norm for their respective designations, stripping as such aspirations may prove to be. Of course, it comes no surprise that such should prove standard (within these more systemically pressurized demographics) but these notions beg the question: where does deliberate living fit within these confining margins, fast-paced as they are?
Given this ever-evolving landscape, it’s so secret that creatives are (not-so) slowly losing their place within our collective; but I find it prudent to delve beyond notions of the depriving taxation witnessed on their behalf. Instead, I’d rather take the time to expand on society’s ever-depleting willingness to finely procure sentiments of expression in itself. Keep in mind of course, my objective when faced with this composition isn’t to further hone in on the lack of creatives presiding within our collective society(ies), but to instead further expand on sentiments of deliberate living (or the lack thereof) within such an opportunist-driven society. Prevalent as those issues may prove to be, we’ll never stand to surpass their toll-taking ideations if we fail to account for their systemic stemmings.
When exploring the rudiments of such depriving measures, we can boil them down to a few mere sentiments: grind culture and media influence. From perpetrated ideals of “high-life living” to perpetuated notions of our standard 9-5, it’s quite obvious the sentiment by which one may aspire to serve. Faced with these idealistic notions, however, we’re left with the so-called “bottom of the pack,” scrambling to fill whatever economic roles remain after having sustained such taxing pursuits. What comes next? When our once respected professions are whittled down to such rudimentary extremes, what’s to come for those residing, or daring enough to pursue even lesser margins? Are they to be outcast? All such sustained rhetoric only serves to account for the economical pressures witnessed at the behest of this indulgent pursuit, not to mention the myriad of external pressures accompanying such notions. Having borne witness to these rushed pursuits, what’s to come? What comes after Harvard, Yale, Princeton?
Having pedestalized these individualistic, rushed, sentiments, most soon lose sight of our human tendency, of which includes our ability to slow down. Even now, our tolerance for any such notions attributed to that of mundanity stand depleted. Influencers, coming forth to condemn the loitering witnessed on behalf of most public spaces; coffee shops, bakeries, the like. How inconsiderate! Sitting down at a coffee shop? Gasp. Reading in a library? The audacity. These blind-sighted ideations serve only to further regulate the compartmentalized tendencies susceptible to toleration within our already enclosed margin(s).
Amidst all this perpetuated chaos, where should ideations of deliberation fit? By no means should our ambition serve subject to our already contorted sense of judgement, but life is about balance. To live in such objectively unsubstantiated sentiments of potential designation will only lead to a witnessed compromising of the present. Take a break. Take it easy. Take life by the reins and assume control. It is yours, after all.
