Announcing the inaugural CTK Scholarship for High School Journalism

We are proud to announce the inaugural CTK Scholarship for High School Journalism. The scholarship will recognize exceptional works of high school journalism, ranging from investigative reporting to editorializing. The winner of this scholarship should emulate what The Outspoken represents: bold and creative approaches to an ever-expanding field of journalism. During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the original members of the editorial board interviewed local politicians about school reopenings or dips in employment rates. That editorial board also focused on the local school board election, interviewing candidates and eventually endorsing them. Later editorial boards also interviewed mayoral candidates. The website’s most ambitious effort was the Holos Project, which amplified the stories of Ukrainian high school students during Russia’s invasion. We hope the winner of next year’s scholarship carries on this legacy.

The scholarship will be $3,000 and awarded to one graduating high school student on The Outspoken’s staff. This scholarship is made possible by the original editorial board of The Outspoken, who will determine next year’s winner.
