Throughout countless archives of constituted media, archetypes of perceived femininity have been portrayed in manners debilitating to the complexities possessed by that of any rational human being, going as far as to have earned a myriad of titles accompanying the crippling notions by which these governing social norms are perpetuated. “Written by a man” this, and “written by a woman” that, all such ideologies tie these contested norms back to the fundamental ideals perpetuated by that of patriarchy. In media, it’s quite prevalent the lack of consideration taken (by many, not all) when writing/portraying the complexities possessed by that of any such female-oriented character(s) (or any by which are attributed to the debilitating classist norms governing such social hierarchy), much of which is noted by instances of dilution (in which many entail the perpetuation of negative sexual/horndog-exemplifying connotations present within these set parameters). To strip a character of their complexity is to strip them of their agency; to reduce them to nothing but sexuality is to exemplify the notions undertaken by many of our patriarchal systems: that those attributed to more “feminine” sophistications (if you could even deem them such) are destined to serve as nothing more than shallow entertainment.
“Written by a woman!”
“Written by a man!”
Stemming from the overtly debilitating ideals mentioned prior comes forth the notions aiding in the perpetuation in this systemic cycle of what many label the “male-loneliness epidemic”. These contested instances of dilution and infringement serve as further contribution to the perceived incompetence possessed by that of men. Of course a man could never depict complexity as skillfully as a woman could; they’re shallow, incapable of neurological processing in any capacity; all of such referenced ideals serve to constitute the current perpetrated narrative perpetuated by a majorital collective within the media. Throughout narratives of foretold femininity have arisen contentions of feminism (and the potential for potency surrounding such equalizing concepts), and perhaps the fear around such crippling (crippling to pre-set patriarchal standards, that is) notions serves as the fuel behind the perpetration for this roaring fire of masculine-veering sustaining supremacy. Now of course, there are two ways to take this; one, that the overt sexualization of women in media stands to depict the potential for the integration of women (or social equality as a whole) in more easily digestible lights for some, or two, that these debilitating standards are being set as to attempt to inhibit the developmentation of socially-sustained equality.
When sexuality determines the caliber to which one’s capacity for normalcy may extend, it’d be safe to assume that such would serve as innate weaponization, which from the contested ideals previously mentioned, seems to be the case here. It’s no secret that media coverage should stand to possess a say within the social/political operations of any given county/ry, and perhaps such should serve as the rationality fueling the weaponization of these derogatory standards. Evidently, the implementation of such detrimental insights upon more sexually-veering individuals has already taken its place, taken its toll within the media. However, the implementation of such debilitating standards have yet to have proven to have remained within such set digital parameters. The message, regardless of circumstance, has seen to have taken root in both digital forums, as well as in actuality. It’s no secret, given the onslaught of slandering tripe presented with these notions of femininity, the resentment harbored towards the development of movements in such nature; and such serves as the basis for this train of hate.
These systematics can be weaponized because they already exist. Shame and defilement should stand to hold power within these narratives, because that’s all the individuals attributed to these demographics have been reminded of: that no matter what, no matter the extent to which their advocacy should stretch, that the media should always stand to perceive them as lesser-than; and perhaps that’s the reason that such should serve to stand. Naturally, notions of demonization stand to stem from a place of either insecurity, or incompetence (in perception). Perhaps that’s all this is. An instance of incompetence. Throughout film, literary works, you name it, feminine-veering archetypes have been seen to have been watered down beyond rationality through the implementation of sexually-explicit ideals. This weaponization serves as testament to the insecurity possessed by that of more misogynistically-pandering individuals, whilst also serving to account for the attempts witnessed at the behest of such to inhibit the growth and development of these advocative movements towards social equality.
