On January 28, 2021, The Outspoken Oppa surveyed La Canada students through a social media poll. The poll asked if the viewer of the poll approved or disapproved of Biden’s administration so far.
Of the 152 LC students surveyed, 77% said they approve and 23% said they disapprove of Biden’s first seven days in office.
The poll mentioned that President Biden has issued and signed 22 executive orders in his first seven days, the most out of the proceeding five presidents in their first seven days in office. Of the 22 executive orders, the mentioned orders were recommitting the United States to the international climate change mitigation accords called the Paris agreement, issuing a mask mandate on federal property, pulling funds for the construction of the US-Mexico border wall, and canceling the Keystone XL permit.
Other mentioned executive orders were reversing a transgender military band, forming a federal commission on combatting climate change, and unveiling a 1.9 trillion dollar stimulus package for economic relief during COVID-19. It was also mentioned that, at the time of the survey’s publication, the newly sworn-in president had a 54% approval rating and a 35.2 disapproval rating, according to a Five-Thirty-Eight poll.
The poll is believed by the website’s Head of View Growth, Mason Pirkey, to be a part of a general trend in the political ideology of La Canada students. “Generally speaking, students that attend schools in La Canada have held left-leaning or liberal stances,” Pirkey said when asked. “This is evident by the numerous polls published in the past, where the results show students favoring Democrats or Democratic proposals over Republicans or Republican proposals disproportionately compared to the rest of California or even Los Angeles.”
Pirkey, who oversaw a 700% growth in website traffic during the third and fourth 2020 fiscal quarters, stated, “This general trend of La Canada students favoring Democrats is not likely to diminish but, in fact, may increase due to greater polarization and radicalism dominating the national political discussion.”
