I haven't been feeling patriotic. That's not because I suddenly believe America was never great or is not currently great. That's also not because I am ashamed of the atrocities committed by past Americans. It’s because I fear we are losing our adherence to freedom.

In the grand scheme of things, the strength of this Republic comes from the continuing effort to assert every person deserves the same rights regardless of any identity.
