The reports of COVID-19’s rapid spread around the globe alarmed people and, as with any emergency, people took to the stores and started to buy. And buy. And buy.
In times of extreme need, people that are looking to make a profit off of other people’s desperation are often looked down upon by society. While it is true that this method of making money is morally dubious, an argument can be made that it helps, and not harms the recovery effort.
With the fall of Constantinople in 1453 by the Ottoman Turks, the nations of Western Europe were forced to look elsewhere for cheaper access to the luxurious spices flowing from the East and supplying the ever-more increasing demands of a growing European populace.
The only purpose of the business-driven mind is to produce products and services which put his or her competitors aside. For the only reason for such driven motivation is a matter of survival. In necessity and crisis, innovation is produced.
