To preface, this is my endorsement and not representative of the Editorial Board or anyone on this site.
Joe Biden for President. These are the words that come to my mind when I think about who I want to win the Democratic Primaries and the General Election. Biden has built an amazing reputation for himself while he served under President Barack Obama. He was the person who was credited for introducing the first climate change bill in Congress. This bill was called the Global Climate Protection Act and was directed to the government to research and develop a strategy to deal with global warming. He also helped President Obama carefully craft the Paris Agreement in which pledged to reduce carbon emissions and keep global temperature increases from going over two degrees Celsius. This has led to a burst in popularity and has truly propelled him onto a stage where he can bring this country back where it needs to be. With the Primaries closing in on two candidates, Sanders and Biden, I feel the need to voice my opinion on who I think should take up the challenge of beating Trump in the 2020 presidential election. I believe that Biden should be the Democratic Nominee because of his climate change program, and has the best chance to beat Donald Trump.
The reason that Joe Biden I favor Biden is that he has a climate change policy, unlike Trump. Global Climate Change is a pressing matter for my generation. The amount of damage that it will inflict on the environment is unprecedented and I will not stand up for a president that does not believe in such a real and prevalent event. Biden said that he will put the United States back into the Paris Climate Agreement in which set limits and standards for countries all over the world to meet. Biden has pledged to make sure that the United States achieves a 100% clean energy economy by 2050. This vast commitment will set an example for the world to follow and also drastically reduce carbon emissions. The United States is ranked second in terms of carbon emissions and output in the world. This shames the US on the world stage and should not be something Trump should take pride in. Biden has also pledged to use the United State’s power as a country to help ensure that the Paris Agreement’s goals and limitations on the number of greenhouse gases that are met and enforced by countries around the world. He has also pledged to help people in nonrenewable energy companies (i.e. coal miners, natural gas fracking, etc.) and help educate them so they can reenter the workforce. Biden is putting the world in a better place, and the next generation’s future in a brighter place by investing in a cleaner, more sustainable future.
Joe Biden is the Democratic candidate that has the best chance against Donald Trump in the Presidential Election of 2020. This is because Biden has been historically known to appeal to unity and bipartisanship. People from all over the world believe that if Biden becomes the Democratic Nominee, he will have a better chance of beating Trump than any other Democratic candidate running right now. In fact, in a poll that was conducted by The Economist, 48% of the people who were surveyed said that they would vote for Biden while 41% said that they would vote for Trump. Therefore, Biden has the majority here. I believe that this is the case because of Biden’s climate change policy, and how he was able to push for laws and bills to be passed when he was Vice President. From these policies, I can see that Biden truly cares about the American people and has a deep passion for this country. We should do everything in our power to ensure that Biden gets the chance to help change America for the better, and pave a path in which the future generation of America can walk along. Biden would agree with me in saying that the future is in our own hands. In his own words, he explained:
Our future cannot depend on the government alone. The ultimate solutions lie in the attitudes and the actions of the American people.
I, Edwin Tieu, endorse Joe Biden for the Democratic Nomination, and President of the United States.
